Mum-of-two Emma gave up top-class job

Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), April 3, 2008

A MOTHER-of-two left a high-profile job to realise her ambition.

Emma Kirkby - Geddes is a 39-year-old from Hepworth.

She gave up a career in marketing to have her two children, Evie, seven, and five-year-old Eddie.

But when her children were both at school she signed up to an Open University course to fulfil a lifetime ambition of studying psychology.

She was supported by her husband Mick, a sculptor.

Mrs Kirkby-Geddes said: "It was such a big decision to make. I knew going back to studying would never be the easy option.

"I already had a career before I had the children, but I decided I wanted to do something I was really interested in, which was psychology.

"Mick has been very supportive throughout it all.

"I probably have another three or four years left before I finish for good as I am now doing a master's degree course.

"The Open University really is excellent. It doesn't feel like you are making a massive leap into the unknown.

"It's a really good way of studying while you get on with your life too."

Mrs Kirkby-Geddes got a first-class honours BSc degree in psychology.

She wants to be a chartered health psychologist once she completes her master's course.
