Pleasant memories of Mount; NOSTALGIA

Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), August 16, 2008

Byline: John Avison

TONY Whitehead left Mount Pleasant Secondary School in July 1958 aged 15.

The rest of his year group dispersed, and most of them have never set eyes on each other for 50 years.

"There's a chance that many of them have left Huddersfield," said Tony. "But on the other hand, we know some are still around the town, celebrating their 65th birthdays this year.

"One of them is the Examiner's former sports editor, John Gledhill, who was deputy head boy."

Four former pupils got their heads together earlier this year to plan a reunion. They are Tony (phone 01484-685543), Joan Kaye, nee Austwick (01484-651105), Ralph Hirst (01484-643634) and David Mallinson (842582), a former head boy.

Tonywas able to supply a memory jerker for the class; when most of the group were in class 4a they went on a trip to London to see, among other sights, Windsor Castle and the BBC radio studios.

The teachers with them were the head, Dyson Beaumont, form teacher F J Burns and the girls' chaperone Joyce Craig.

The reunion will be on October 3 at Broad Oak Bowling Club, 7.30pm for 8pm.
