LANDMARK: Children's party at the Liberal Club

Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), Feb 5, 2008

THE patrons of the Highgate pub in Oakes got together to fund a Christmas party for the children of all Huddersfield Corporation-run children's homes, plus the kids from All Saints C of E Children's Home in Almondbury.

The event was held at Lindley Liberal Club on December 4, 1954.

It was the fourth annual event, though we're not sure how long the tradition continued. This one attracted no fewer than 107 children.

Each child received a jigsaw puzzle, a bag of sweets, a stick of barley sugar, an orange and an a apple

CAPTION(S):

DRESSED IN THEIR BEST: Some of the youngsters at the fourth annual children's homes party at Lindley Liberal Club in 1954; SMART: Mrs H Crawshaw (light jacket, centre) is the only person we can name for now (54-5989); LIKELY LADS: And one lass, it seems, in the stairwell at Lindley Liberal Club
