Letter: Mailbag - Well done 'The Newsome Two' TREVOR WOOLLEY

Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), July 22, 2008

WHAT a pleasant surprise to read in Friday's Examiner about the activities of councillors Cooper and Stewart-Turner. They are actually representing the feelings of their constituents instead of sitting on the fence!

Councillors in Linthwaite, when presented with similar concerns from their constituents about planned redevelopment, prefer to "take no action at this stage". I refer to plans to build some 158 dwellings on the site of the former Black Rock Mill in Linthwaite. The site has so much potential for the benefit of local residents such as new allotments or even a nature reserve but I suppose this is a step too far.

They would rather see the erection of new houses at a time when existing houses remain unsold and mortgages for first time buyers impossible to obtain. They would rather see the destruction of a very special site and massive disruption to the local community.

They are not alone in this of course as they seem to take their lead from our MPs who always wait to see which way the wind blows before acting, witness their actions over the transfer to Halifax of services from HRI.

Well done the "Newsome Two".
