Well, hello all Santas!

Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), July 24, 2008

Byline: John Avison

WHAT does Santa do on the 364 days that aren't Christmas?

I thought that he directed the elves as they toiled 24/7 to make toys to give to kids.

But I accept that this is somewhat naive.

Everybody needs weekends and one assumes that Santa's Workshop has to abide by European Working Time Directives and health and safety rules the same as anyone else.

But anyway I'm wrong. What Santa does on those quiet summer days is get on a plane for Copenhagen.

Santa Clauses from around the world have gathered for their annual three-day congress in the summer heat of the Danish capital.

The World Santa Claus Congress, now in its 51st year, is bringing together 136 red-clad delegates, mostly from Scandinavia but also as far away as Russia, Japan and the United States.

The activities on the programme include a bicycle parade, hula hoop dancing and a dip in Copenhagen harbour.

Yummy.

In its purest form, office politics is simply about getting from here to there: securing a promotion, seeing an idea come to fruition, or gaining support to make an organizational change. Playing the game well is about defending your position, earning respect, exchanging favors, and keeping your sanity amid the chaos. To get started, you need to know what you really want from work, then orient your political moves toward those goals. It all starts with strong relationships and helping others; those people in return make up the support system that helps you realize your goals. Here’s how it’s done.
