Just try and become a Fashion Idol!

Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), March 27, 2008

Byline: By HILARIE STELFOX Feature Writer

FANCY your chances as a fashion designer?

Why not submit an entry for the Yorkshire Fashion Idol 2008 competition organised by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society.

The competition, which has its finale at this year's 150th Great Yorkshire Show in Harrogate (July 8-10), showcases the work of budding designers over the age of 16.

Last year Huddersfield student Rebecca Poole, from Newsome, was one of the finalists. Her cropped tweed jacket, entitled Piling on the Pleats was inspired by traditional Yorkshire fabric.

And in 2006 Lisa Mitchell, of Huddersfield University, was the first ever winner of the Fashion Idol title.

This year, entrants are being asked to design a garment inspired by one of the decades of the show. The only constraint is that garments must have commercial potential.

The contest, sponsored by the Skipton Building Society, will culminate in a catwalk show in which finalists will see their designs.

The overall winner will receive pounds 500, a portfolio of professional photographs by Javan Liam Photography and will have their collection styled and modelled by the Louise Morton Model Agency.

A place at the renowned Design Incubation Centre, Textile Centre of Excellence will also be offered to the winner.

The closing date for the competition is April 11. To enter, download an application form at www.yorkshirefashionidol.co.uk
