Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), May 14, 2008

A SPECIAL performance in Birdsedge with Huddersfield poet Simon Armitage attracted film-makers from the BBC.

The concert at Birdsedge village hall was filmed for the BBC Culture Show, and saw the world-renowned poet collaborating with Huddersfield-based singer/songwriter Roger Davis for the one-off performance.

Around 100 people turned up for the concert, which was held as part of the Holmfirth Festival of Folk.

The BBC are filming a review about Mr Armitage's latest book, Gig, The Life and Times of a Rock Star Fantasist, and wanted to film him reading poetry to use as part of the Culture Show.

He will feature in the episode screened on June 3.

Ged Faricy, who organised the concert, said: "It went extremely well and the audience seemed to really enjoy it.

"Simon himself had a great evening, and it was such a privilege to have someone so famous and renowned for his fantastic work and talent, to come and perform in Birdsedge."
