The end of the house-to-house collection in the village for Christian Aid Week was marked by a coffee morning and cakes stall at the United Church, Marsden, when pounds 170 was raised. Money raised for Christian Aid in the village already

Sunday morning worship at the United Church, Marsden was led by a group of church members, with Christine Gledhill the organist.

To mark the end of Christian Aid Week, a service was held at the United Church, Marsden on Sunday afternoon and was organised by the two village churches. It was led by young people Eleanor Boothroyd, Sarah Boswell, Naomi Hemingway, Rachel Hemingway, Hannah Moorhouse and Anabelle Pugh. The Rev Geoff Clay offered thanks and organist was Christine Gledhill.

After the service a simple meal of bread and salad and a spicy Nepalese dish was prepared by the Rev Geoff Clay.

St Bartholomew's Church Flower Ladies have organised a Family Games Night on Friday May 30 in the parochial hall.

There will also be games for the children and tombola, raffle and refreshments. All are welcome. Admission is pounds 2 (adults) and pounds 1 (children).

Sunday's Holy Communion at St Bartholomew's Church was led by the Rev Geoff Clay. Reader was Dennis Brook, prayers were offered by David Fisher and sidesmen were Elsie Lingard, David Fisher and G Benn. Coffee was served by Joan Ladbrook, Mary Horn and Jean Pennington. Organist - for the last time - was Don Roworth. He is soon to take up a position as organist at Peel Cathedral in the Isle of Man. A Bach violin duet was played for him.

Members of the church helped count money for Christian Aid Week on Saturday morning.

New committee members are urgently needed for Cuckoo Day 2009 - included a new chairman. The next committee meeting will be on Tuesday November 4 at 8pm at 25 Warehouse Hill Road, Marsden.

Friends of Marsden Park meet on the last Tuesday of every month a Marsden Mechanics Institute at 6.30pm. Volunteers are working to improve the park facilities for the benefit of the whole community. Anyone wanting to help or offer constructive ideas will be made welcome.
