Veterans' hat-trick ambitions
Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), May 28, 2008
HUDDERSFIELD'S Inter District veterans, sponsored by Perry's Cars, will be aiming to make it three on the bounce when they take on Castleford on Friday (1.30).
The home team have selected Brockholes, while the away team travel to Savile Park.
In addition, long-serving player Jack Hewitt has decided to retire from the District side.
League secretary Tommy Dunford said: "Jack had an excellent time with the veterans team and has been a smashing player for us.
"He informed the selection committee of his intention to step down and wishes the team all the best for the future.
"He has been a great ambassador for veterans bowling."
At Brockholes: Bob Frith, Trevor Sykes, Ronnie Norcliffe, Roy Sutton, Harry Pennington, Brian Starkey, Terry Randerson, Frank Greenwood. Reserve: Gordon Cowgill.
At Savile Park: Donald Crowther, Viv Smith, Frank Griffin, Roy Tipple, Dennis Hirst, Barry Nicholl, Tony Emerson, John Shaw. Reserve: Bob Armitage.
Due to the disappointing number of entries for the Rosebowl and LD Trophy, the Huddersfield Veterans League have extended the closing date by another seven days, to this Saturday. Contact Bill Blackburn on 01484 641101.
Draw for tomorrow's Armitage Garden Centre-sponsored veterans team and subsidiary team knockouts (2.00).
