COUNTY CLASS TELLS FOR THE OAK; Roebuck and Hargreaves too hot for Green Moor UNDER 17

Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), Sept 2, 2008

Byline: By DAVID LOCKWOOD Sports Reporter

BROAD Oak wheeled out their 'big guns' and duly wrapped up the Philip Oldfield Trophy with a convincing win over Green Moor.

In front a good-sized crowd at Holmfirth, Broad Oak batted first and their two Yorkshire players Charlie Roebuck and Jack Hargreaves, opened the innings and rattled up 80 in the first eight overs.

Both made unbeaten half-centuries before being forced to retire.

Eddie Wilson (42) was another to help himself in the run feast which led the Oak to 217-6 in their allotted 40 overs.

For Green Moor, Mark Elsworth and Jack Bladen both took two wickets, but all five bowlers went for a few runs. When the Central League side replied, Harry Howlett top-scored with 27, but his colleagues found runs difficult against Broad Oak's experienced seven-string attack, in which Ben Burnett took three for 18 from six overs, while Sarah Ford, who has played at the Oak all through her junior career, chipped in with two for 10 from 2.1.

Roebuck then claimed two for three as Green Moor were bowled out for 108.
