Halifax battle plan

YORKSHIRE must present a "compelling commercial case" for Halifax to retain its status in the region following the takeover of HBOS by Lloyds TSB, it was said today.
Regional minister Rosie Winterton said she was working with development agency Yorkshire Forward to compile a strong case for keeping "a significant hub" for the new company in the region.
The minister said Lloyds TSB chairman Sir Victor Blank had reaffirmed that the bank would do whatever it could to minimise job losses - and reaffirmed his belief that the Halifax is the definitive mortgage brand.
