Weekend People: They all say give peace a chance

Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England),  Sept 29, 2008

PEOPLE of all faiths met to mark the International Day of Peace in Huddersfield.

The day was held at Huddersfield Hindu Temple, on Zetland Street.

Prayers were said for peace, a peace bell was rung and speeches were made before a vegetarian meal. Those attending also took part in yoga sessions and lit candles to mark the day of peace.

Members of the Huddersfield Interfaith Council are pictured lighting peace candles - Shazad Hussain representing the Muslim faith, the Rev Catherine Ogle for the Christian faith, Sikh leader Inderpal Randhawa and Hindu representative Kiran Bali.

Ms Bali said: "This is one day when the world is invited to consider and appreciate the importance of peace in our daily lives and to make a personal commitment to live in a more tranquil manner."

The International Day of Peace was formed by the United Nations in 1982.
