A gem of a love match

IT WAS game, set and match for James and Mollie Ellin who celebrate their diamond wedding today.

The couple, of St Peter's Crescent,Kirkheaton, met while working in the tennis department at the then Mitre Sports works in Birkby.

Mr Ellin, 82, who made parts for tennis racquets, went on to work in the engineering industry and spent his last 20 years before retirement from Highfield Gears as a lathe operator.

Mrs Ellin, 80, who worked in the office, brought up the couple's son and daughter. They also have four grand-daughters and two greatgrandsons.

The couple were married at Christ Church Woodhouse.

They will be celebrating their anniversary with an open house for family and friends and a family weekend in Scarborough.

The couple were keen ballroom and sequence dancers and now enjoy crosswords and reading.

Mrs Ellin said her husband was her best friend and the secret of a happy marriage was working together.
