Well done to Woody as first to 500 runs; LEG GLANCES

Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), June 20, 2009

CONGRATULATIONS to Woody (Matthew Wood) on becoming the first player in the Premiership to score 500 League runs this season.

The Honley player-coach wins pounds 75 from the Examiner for reaching the landmark first, after he scored 64 not out against Clayton West last week - the exact figure he needed to hit the 500 mark.

And by coincidence, Kirkburton second-teamer Mike Smith won the Second XI batting cash (reaching 400) when he, too, hit an unbeaten 64 in the match against Barkisland. Smith wins pounds 50 for his effort.

Hoylandswaine's John Ashton (343) was well ahead of the field in the Conference race, but failed against Kirkburton, allowing Kexborough duo Mark Bray (325) and Adam Wiles (323) to close the gap, as did Emley's Pat Moors (334) to leave the race wide open.

In the Seconds, Smith's total is now 410 and he pipped Kexborough's Luke Potter (366) and Simon England (337).

The cheques are in the post lads..
