CROSLAND MOOR The Association of Christian Fellowship from St. Barnabas' Church enjoyed a beautiful evening for their annual car rally coordinated by the secretary Kathleen Pratt. The route and clues were planned by Geoffrey and Susan Baldwin and Philip and Joyce Bradley and covered the areas of Meltham, Honley, Farnley Tyas and Denby Dale, finishing at the Sovereign Inn at Shepley where the competitors enjoyed a bar meal. Nine cars competed and the winning team for the third year was Bruce and Angela Jackson, Rachael Jackson and Mark Joy, therefore retaining the trophy. The team drawn to plan next year's rally is Margaret Cooper, Mavis Armitage, Colin and Ann Harris.

GOLCAR The Golcar Churches met together at Golcar Baptist Church to discuss the future of Christian Churches in the district. The meeting was addressed by the Rev Graham Kidman, who is the district Ecumenical officer. The Sunday service was conducted by the Rev Chris Thompson, the organist was Calinda Stockhill, the pianist was Chris Woodhead and the reader Roy Waite and this was followed by a Faith lunch for Roy's birthday.

Dorothy Holden opened the Mother's Union at St John's Church with prayers and welcomed Christine Mickleborough who spoke about the work of the Children's Society. Also displayed was the Millennium Tapestry depicting scenes involving the work of the Children's Society. A vote of thanks was given by Dorothy and the supper lady was Sheila Cockroft.

Helen Davies led the Worship in Today's Wold Service at St John's Church. The theme for the service was Building Our

Community. Chris Bamford read from Corinthians Chapter 12 about the body having many parts, just as the church has many people all having different talents but working together for God and the community. Sue Starr gave the address on community involvement in the recently held Golcar Lily day, illustrated with slides. Sunday Club had an exciting morning as usual, talking to Susan Whitwam about parties and treasured memories and making a plan of the village where members of the congregation put buildings in the correct place. Also making Golcar Lily flowers with the Sunday Club leaders.

Prayers were led by Helen Davies and Ann Norton was the organist. Next Sunday, June 21, the parish communion service will be shared with friends from Providence Methodist Church. At a welcome service in the afternoon Cannon Martyn Crompton baptised Sharon Marie Hemmingway, Phoebe Margaret and Ellis William Brown.

LINTHWAITE The Morning worship at Linthwaite Methodist Church, led by Rev Jo Archer-Siddall, was a family Service of Thanksgiving for animals. Members of the congregation took their pets to church, which included dogs, cats, a rabbit and a guinea pig.

Others took photographs of their pets. The organist was Mrs Linda Nuttall, and the children took part in doing the actions for He's Got The Whole World In His Hands. There were four short bible readings relating to animals, and the readers were Peggy MacKay, Margaret Moriarty, Jan Widdup and Maureen Stead. Coffee was served after the service.

Next week's Sunday Service will be held at 10.30am and the preacher will be Rev Alan Boyd.

The Church will hold its 18th Church anniversary service at 10.30 am on Sunday June 28 and the preacher will be Rev Jo Archer-Siddall.

An All Age Worship service was held at Christ Church on Sunday morning, led by the Rev Jenni Honeyman, who celebrated Holy Communion, preached, prayed and gave a blessing. She later baptised Theresa Sandra and James Samson. Pianist was Katherine Longbottom and lessons were read by Russell Wattam and Margaret McQuillan.

LONGWOOD The sung Eucharist Family Service at St Mark's Church, on Sunday morning was conducted by Parish Priest Rev Jim Hunt, with David Verlander as server. Music was provided by Philip Turner and his group of musicians and choir. As is customary in Family Services, a joyful atmosphere was created by singing of happy songs, proving that church services are not all sombre occasions. There was a tuneful Gloria, where rhythmic clapping was encouraged, along with enthusiastic percussion by the young church members. Jim then introduced a Bible reading of the Gospel and Carol Hunt gave the talk on the theme of Celtic Christianity. He recalled visits to places such as Iona and Lindisfarne, ably assisted by some of the young church members with artefacts.Young children, Ethan Ryan Pickard and Bethany Kate Roper, baptised last Sunday afternoon, together with their parents and godparents, were presented with cards and candles, lit from the Easter candle by Jim, and they were welcomed into St Mark's Church family with the customary round of applause. Following this everyone joined in singing Walk in the Light and then re-affirmed their belief in God. The leader of the young church Joan Morton presented a time for prayer which was followed by the sharing of The Peace. Communion, and individual blessings followed and the final song I Danced In The Morningresounded around the church and Jim reannounced the three Banns of Marriage of last week, for the second time of asking, together with another set for the first time for Simon Edward Cotterill and Victoria Louise Fish. The event concluded with Jim leading the young church up the centre aisle to the sounds of the now familiar Celtic Blessing.
