This service followed the now familiar format of a powerpoint presentation, on the big screen, ably manipulated by Nikki Gaukroger, with the final message inviting everyone to the next Family Service on July 12.
MARSDEN David Spencer led morning worship at the United Church and Chris Cook was at the organ. Readers were Barry Biltcliffe and Norman Dias.
MILNSBRIDGE At the Midweek Bible class of Milnsbridge Christadelphians Mr P Barrett, from Milnsbridge gave a talk on An Introduction of the First and Second Books of Peter. On Sunday evening Mr S Ashton from Lye gave a talk on What The Bible Says about Women Bishops.
PARKWOOD A drop in lunch was held at Parkwood Methodist Church on Wednesday. Menu roast chicken mashed potatoes, swede, braised celery, jam sponge, fruit pavlova, treacle tart and apple and pear sponge, tea or coffee. Organised by Linda Murray, assisted by ladies of the Church. Marion Lloyd welcomed the congregation on Sunday morning to Parkwood Methodist Church. Guest preacher Mr Andrew Marchington, readers Mary Rothery, and Sandra McSweeney, organist Kenneth Rothery. Coffee was served after the service by Margaret Noble and Christine Johnson. On Monday a day trip to Llandudno by coach was organised by Arthur Preston and Dorothy Heads, for members of Churches Together in the lower Colne Valley. Golcar Gala is on Saturday, June 27, 11am to 4pm at Manor Road School Playing Fields.
SLAITHWAITE The Methodist Bible Study Group met on Monday evening they were led by Iain Spencer and studied Judges and the Story of how Gideon, obeying the instructions of God defeated the Midianites. Women's Fellowship met on Tuesday, Betty Whitwam was in the chair and led prayers, Rev Jo Archer-Siddal presided over the AGM, secretary Pauline Gee gave a report on the year's work, the committee were thanked by Rev Jo and all were re-elected with the addition of the Fellowship treasurer Dot Crowder being assisted by Betty Robshaw who will be assisted by Bessie Whitwam as the Network treasurer. Tea and cakes were served after the meeting. Mr David Brook of Crosland Moor led Sunday worship, he preached on the Kingdom of God with Maureen Weaving reading from Samuel and Ann Walker reading from Mark, the parable of the farmer and the mustard seed. The organist was Margaret Stevenson.
Slaithwaite Good Companions met last Thursday and were introduced by Hilary Ellis. The speakers for the afternoon were from the PDSA practise manager James Funell who told of the history of the charity which was started in 1914 by Maria Dickin CBE. Head nurse Mitch Sanderson then spoke of a general day at the main hospital in Bradford. Five telephones are managed throughout the day and five vets at a time are working plus eight nurses day and evening, such is the work load. He was thanked by Patricia Parkinson. A donation was given by the club and a collection was also taken.
St James Parish Church parish communion service was led by the Rev Robyn Townsend assisted by Jeanette Seed, the layreader and Raymond Denton. The lesson was read by Jacqueline Haigh and the address was given by the Rev Robyn who also led the prayers. The pianist was Hiroko Townsend and the organist was Alvi Whitehead..
