Second half rally brings fine victory; Newsome Panthers

Emerging 8 West Bowling 16 Newsome Panthers 20 NEWSOME started strongly playing up the slope, putting in some strong drives and excellent tackling.
West Bowling led 8-4 lead at the break but the second half proved to be a different story as Newsome took advantage of the slope. Man of match Kane North earned his stripes with 10 tackles and two tries, whilst top grafter Lewis Murphy also crossed twice. Corey Bradley was recognised for tackle of the match.
Emerging 8 West Craven 12 Panthers 28 In their second match of the day Newsome faced West Craven at West Bowling's Odsal ground. The game once again proved to be fast and pacy.
Newsome's defence was very strong with Man of the Match Lewis King making 10 excellent tackles and putting in strong drives.
It was 12-8 at Newsome at half time and having four subs proved a bonus as they took control in the second half. Kane North took the grafter award with 12 tackles and three tries.
Under 8 West Bowling 44 Newsome Panthers 40 This was a cracking match between two well-matched sides. West Bowling broke through early on, but Panthers battled back.
Great running brought a fine first try for the club from Joe Hughes. The sides then exchanged tries, with the hosts just holding the advantage at the break.
In the second half, Billy Haywood ran the length of the pitch to score for Newsome and further tries came from Joe Hughes, Billy Denton and Wesley McGuire. However, one try proved the difference at the final whistle.
Tries came from Joe Hughes (3), Billy Haywood (3), Billy Denton, Wesley McGuire (2), and Henry Barton. Man of the Match was awarded to Joe Hughes for an amazing debut performance and Billy Haywood gained the Grafter award.
Under 9 Newsome Panthers 28 Queensbury 12 It took nine minutes of fast open rugby in sweltering heat before William Rogers opened the scoring for the home side with a converted try.
The visitors equalised with the last play of a closely-contested half and they took the lead soon after the restart.
But Newsome hit back with two from Connor Boylan, the second one converted before Jasper McGuire and Jack Grundy made the game safe.
Conversions were added by Jasper McGuire, William Rogers, Adam Sheffield and Jack Grundy. Jasper McGuire was awarded Grafter and Man of the Match went to Connor Boylan for his try-saving tackles..
