Lawler is next up for Nurse
Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), June 24, 2009
Byline: DOUG THOMSON
TYRONE NURSE will fight Ben Lawler in Manchester on Friday, July 24 - and the Huddersfield boxer's trainer Chris Aston reckons Sky Sports viewers are in for an entertaining fight.
Both bring 100% records to the ring - in 19-year-old lightweight Nurse's case after eight fights, and for 24-year-old Skegness-based soldier Lawler, five.
Lawler outpointed Manchester's Damien Jeffries last time out in May, while Nurse's last win was over Reading's Ibrar Riyaz the same month.
Aston had intended to take time out for gym work, but the lure of a slot on the Frank Maloney show at the George Carnall Leisure
Centre in Davyhulme proved too strong to resist.
"We've checked Lawler out, and it looks like being a step up in class for Tyrone - but he's ready for that," said Aston of the four-round showdown.
"At 24, and with his Army background, Lawler is already a man that bit more physically developed than Tyrone, but will he be able to cope with our speed? "You can't rush nature, but Tyrone's getting stronger all the time, and in the long term, I think a heavier weight suit him..
"At the moment, he walks around at about 10st 7lbs, but getting below 10st for a fight is no problem.
"Lawler is likely to come in around 10st 2lbs, so it will be interesting to see how much extra strength and power we can bring into the fight at that weight." Aston added: "Other than Damien Jeffries, who he hasn't fought, Tyrone has beaten all the people Lawler has, so they have similar records against similar people.
"Their respective styles and the fact that one of the 100% records has to go should ensure a quality fight, and we're looking forward to it." For ticket details, ring Aston on 07917 881114 or Nurse on 07904 743531..
