REAL ale drinkers will help raise cash for good causes when Denby Dale Lions Club stages its annual beer festival.

Sixteen brews, each sponsored by local firms, will be available.

The event takes place from 7.30pm to 11pm on Friday, March 20, and from 1.30pm to 11pm on Saturday at Denby Dale Pie Hall, Wakefield Road.

Entertainment on Friday evening will be provided by Shelley Music Centre Big Band, on Saturday afternoon festival goers can watch the Six Nations Rugby on big screen and in the evening entertainment will be courtesy of band JB Goode.

Beers available will include Holmfirth IPA from the Summer Wine Brewery; Pale Golden and Black Bull Bitter from the Ossett Brewery and Keltek Brewery's Golden Lance.

Admission is pounds 5 per person - which includes the first drink free and a festival half-pint glass.

Lion Linton Bentley said: "Last year we raised pounds 2,000 and we hope to at least equal that figure".
