It was sheer chance that proud mum Elizabeth Hale took a photograph of her baby, Thomas, to test her new camera phone.
What it showed saved his sight - and quite possibly his life.
A rare chance, yes, but it would have been all-too-easy to put the unusual image of Thomas' eyes down to it being a new camera phone.
Elizabeth's powerful maternal instincts led her to seek medical advice - and that quick action will mean so much to Thomas' future.
She also deserves our thanks for speaking out to warn others - who knows what heartache she may have saved another family..
