Meltham flower power
Huddersfield Daily Examiner (Huddersfield, England), May 6, 2009
MELTHAM is bidding to win a blooming good prize.
The village has entered the 2009 Yorkshire in Bloom Awards - and aims to impress judges by creating a blaze of colour during the summer.
The village has entered the category for Neighbourhood Award - and residents have been urged to get involved.
The bid is being backed by Meltham Town Council and several villagers, including Elizabeth Philpott, who won the 2008 Examiner Garden of the Year Award.
Meltham town councillor Shirley Watson said Kirklees Council's nurseries were supplying dozens of hanging baskets, which would be appearing in early June to complement floral tubs and window boxes on public and private buildings throughout the village.
She said efforts to brighten up Meltham in readiness for the competition had also included tackling litter and improving shopfronts.
Anyone wanting to get involved can contact Clr Watson on 01484 850857..
