Amtrak

The [sup.3]Name the Train[sup.2] contest sponsored by the Missouri Department of Transportation and Amtrak attracted more than 8,300 name submissions during the first phase of the contest. Due to the response, contest judges require additional time to select the five finalists. As a result, the final voting phase of the contest will begin the week of Dec. 22. Once online voting begins, you can cast your vote at www.morail.org or mail your favorite finalist name, along with your name and address to MoDOT, Name the Train Contest, P.O. Box 270, Jefferson City, MO 65102. Only one vote per person will be accepted. The new name will be announced by Jan. 30. The Missouri Department of Transportation and Amtrak are sponsoring the [sup.3]Name the Train[sup.2] contest in celebration of 30 years of state-supported passenger rail across Missouri, as well as major service improvements in the works. The name selected will give a new, single brand to the St. Louis to Kansas City passenger service line. Five finalists will receive two round-trip coach tickets to any Amtrak destination in Missouri and a gift basket from one of five participating cities located on the passenger rail line. Atlantic City Express, Atlantic City

The Atlantic City Express Service (ACES), a joint venture of Caesars Atlantic City, Harrah[sup.1]s Resort Atlantic City and Borgata Hotel Casino and Spa will run weekend train service between New York[sup.1]s Penn Station and Atlantic City beginning Feb. 6. ACES will offer customers direct service between the two cities. ACES will run between New York and Atlantic City with a stop in Newark. The eight multi-level rail cars will offer passengers upgraded leather seating, a private lounge, custom-designed food and beverage kiosks and both first and coach class travel experiences. First-class seating is found on the upper deck of the train with servers available for food and beverage options. Dec 17, 2008

Trenitalia

Trenitalia, Italy[sup.1]s national railway, announced that the new high-speed lines significantly improve travel times and experience for traveling Italy by train. Wandrian Inc, Trenitalia[sup.1]s distribution partner in the U.S., will offer special pricing on these new high-speed lines to U.S. travel agents through RailAgent.com until Jan. 15. Mauro Moretti, CEO at Trenitalia, introduced the new high speed services during a press conference in Rome. [sup.3]Rail travel in Italy is changing, Rome and Milan are closer and so are all major cities in the country,[sup.2] Moretti said. [sup.3]We have dramatically upgraded rail technology to give the country a high-speed system among the most modern in the world. VIA Rail Canada

Celebrating its third season, VIA Rail Canada[sup.1]s popular Snow Train to Jasper service is set to resume service this February. The Snow Train, which provides outdoor enthusiasts two additional services between Edmonton and Jasper will operate from Feb. 6 to April 12, complimenting the Canadian[sup.1]s thrice-weekly schedule. Featuring VIA[sup.1]s domed Panorama viewing cars, the Snow Train blends comfort and convenience. On-board attendants from VIA and Marmot Basin provide passengers with information on what to see and do once upon arrival in Jasper, and can arrange advanced purchase of lift tickets, lessons and rental equipment.
