‘Encounter, An’, a story in James Joyce's Dubliners (1914), written in 1905. Three schoolboys plan a day of ‘miching’ (truancy), inspired by comicbook adventures, but only the narrator and Mahoney appear at the rendezvous. They are approached by a man who interrogates them about their girlfriends, who then masturbates.
