Imagine my surprise to see Richard Fagerlund as a contributor to the March issue ("Ant identification made easy," page 29). I have had the opportunity to read his column in the Chicago Sun Times. I have found that his information on insects has been correct most of the time. But I also find some of his information on how to treat a problem by the homeowner has not been correct--and in some situations, could make a problem worse.
His views on pesticides could be considered in the extreme end of the anti-pesticide campaign. And at every opportunity he gets, he berates the industry and belittles the people who work in it. I believe if someone had taken the time to read his column, his contribution might not have been accepted, at the risk of insulting the industry...
