AAP Sports News (Australia) 10-03-1999 Oly: IOC approves Sydney victory medals ATHENS, Oct 3 Reuters - The executive board of the International Olympic Committee today approved the design of the victory medals for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. The medals feature on one side the image of the Sydney Opera House, the Olympic Torch and the Olympic Rings and, on the reverse side, the traditional symbols of Olympic victory such as the Greek goddess of victory. A design competition included 20 Australian artists and designers and the winning designer was Wojciech Pietranik, a distinguished sculptor and designer with the Royal Australian Mint Design team. There will be approximately 300 medal ceremonies for Olympic finals in all sports at the Sydney...
