AAP Sports News (Australia) 05-30-2000 Soc: Socceroos to take on world champs SYDNEY, May 30 AAP - Australia is set to play a procession of World Cup champions next year while Manchester United, Chelsea, AC or Inter Milan have also been penned in to take on the Socceroos mid-year. The International Entertainment Corporation (IEC) confirmed today that negotiations were well advanced to bring out Italy, France, England and Argentina as part of a concentrated build up to the 2002 World Cup. IEC managing director Dominic Galati said his company had budgeted $40 million to put on the most ambitious soccer program ever in Australia. Italy is expected to contest a one-off match on June 10, while France, England, Argentina could play in a group series shortly...
