Backers hint at possible soccer league
The media arm of Spanish telco Telefonica has announced detailed plans for the new
Euroleague basketball competition and suggested the format could form the basis for a
possible breakaway soccer league.
Telefonica Media spoke to leading European clubs last year
about the possibility of a soccer league but the discussions
came to nothing.
The company now says it is still interested in becoming involved with an NBA-style
European soccer league, similar to the one that has now been established in basketball.
