Ten: Hingis sends Halard Decugis into retirement
Top seed MARTINA HINGIS has sent JULIE HALARD-DECUGIS into retirement as ANNA KOURNIKOVA
posted her first career win at the season-ending Chase Championship tennis tournament.
HINGIS, the 1998 champion at Madison Square Garden, disposed of the 17th-ranked Frenchwoman
6-2 6-3, after which the 30-year-old HALARD-DECUGIS announced the end of her 14-year career
on the women's tennis tour.
Seventh seed KOURNIKOVA made JENNIFER CAPRIATI'S return to Madison Square Garden a
short visit as she downed the former teen star 6-4 6-4 in an entertaining, hard-hitting,
but error-filled contest.
