SOC: Soccer fan scoops STG500,000 with 30p bet
A British football fan has collected a bet at what is believed to be world record odds
of nearly 1.7 million-to-one when German giants Bayern Munich beat Valencia in a heart-stopping
penalty shootout to be crowned European soccer champions.
The unnamed Manchester United fan is celebrating a STG500,000 ($A1.37 million) windfall
after staking just 30p ($A0.82c) on a 15-event accumulator with bookmaker William Hill
last August.
Amazingly the same man scooped STG157,000 ($A428,669) from a STG2.50 ($A6.83) accumulator
with the same bookmaker in 1999 when Manchester United won the Champions League final.
