Box: Mayweather and de la Hoya fight becomes richest in histo
American cable television network Home Box office says FLOYD MAYWEATHER'S split decision
over OSCAR DE LA HOYA in Las Vegas at the weekend grossed $A145 million, making it the
richest fight in history.
The World Boxing Council super welterweight showdown in Las Vegas also attracted a
record 2.15 million pay-per-view buys in the United States.
The revenue from Saturday's superfight surpassed the previous record of $A135.5 million
from heavyweights MIKE TYSON and LENNOX LEWIS fight in 2002.
The previous record for buys for a non-heavyweight bout was 1.4 million for DE LA HoYA
against FELIX TRINIDAD in 1999.
