Top seed Ferrer was beaten 6-4 6-0 by Julien Benneteau, suffering his third loss in six matches to the Frenchman. Ferrer, the defending champion, said Benneteau simply played better. "He played very consistent and I made some mistakes at important times in the first set," Ferrer said. "In the second I think I didn't play so good but that was because he played so well.
