The 28-year-old from Melbourne caused a minor sensation by winning the tough 15th stage in the Italian Alps, adding further Downunder lustre as countryman Cadel Evans kept his overall title quest on track. Gerrans, who rides for Credit Agricole, bagged his maiden tour stage win after attacking breakaway companion Egoi Martinez of Euskaltel in the final 150 metres of a rain-lashed 183km ride.
