Baseball: Phillies hire Kerrigan as pitching coach.

Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - Joe Kerrigan, a native Philadelphian, has been given a two-year contract to be the Phillies pitching coach, general manager Ed Wade announced Friday.

The 48-year-old former Temple University athlete pitched in the minor leagues and the majors (Montreal and Baltimore, 1976-78, 1980). His coaching career began in 1983 when he was the bullpen coach for the Expos. He served as a minor league pitching coach in Montreal's farm system (1987-91) before joining the Expos as their major league pitching coach.

Kerrigan joined the Red Sox as their big-league pitching coach in October 1996.
