Spokane, WA (Sports Network) - Washington State has fired men's head basketball coach Paul Graham. The Cougars were just 7-20 this season, including 2-16 in the Pac-10, and failed to qualify for the conference tournament.

Graham had one year left on his five-year contract. He posted a record of 31-79 during his tenure, including a dismal 9-63 mark in conference play.

Washington State athletic director Jim Sterk is hoping to have a replacement before next month's Final Four.

Graham was hired to coach the Cougars on March 25, 1999. Prior to that, he was an assistant coach at Oklahoma State from 1992-99. Graham turns 52 on Tuesday.
