Natchitoches, LA (Sports Network) - Former Louisiana Tech men's basketball coach Emmett Hendricks has died at age 65 following a lengthy illness, according to a statement released Tuesday by the university.

Hendricks, who passed away Sunday at Natchitoches Parish Hospital, became LA Tech's head coach in 1974 after two years as an assistant. In his three-year stint as head coach, he posted a 40-37 record, and was named Southland Conference Coach of the Year in 1975-76 and 1976-77.

The funeral will be held Wednesday at Beulah United Methodist Church in Marthaville, LA.
