Men's Golf: Buick to sponsor Hartford event through 2006.

The Greater Hartford Open will have a new name starting in 2004 when Buick takes over as title sponsor. The PGA Tour event, which will be known as The Buick Championship, will run through 2006.

"Buick is not just any sponsor," said PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem of the announcement that came Thursday. "They were our first corporate sponsor. They currently sponsor three other tournaments on the PGA Tour."

Buick will replace Canon as the title sponsor of the event which has spent 52 years on the PGA Tour. Canon had sponsored the Hartford stop for 18 years before ending its run after last year's tournament.
