College Football: Clarett suspended one year by Ohio State.

Ohio State suspended running back Maurice Clarett from playing on its football team this season.

The sophomore, who was accused of lying to university and NCAA investigators that he received improper benefits, helped lead the Buckeyes to a national championship last season.

"This has been a long and painful procedure," said Ohio State athletic director Andy Geiger, who made the suspension announcement Wednesday. "This is a sad day and we regret deeply what Maurice Clarett has lost and what the Ohio State University, our football family, our fans have lost for this year."
