Hertha Berlin announced Monday that defender Thorben Marx will miss six months with a ruptured cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Marx, 22, hurt the knee in the 10th minute during Saturday's 3-2 loss to Hannover 96.

Marx is under contract with Hertha until 2006 and is no stranger to this injury. He suffered similar fate in his right knee in 1998.

Hertha commercial manager Dieter Hoeness called it a "bitter as he belonged to our regulars."

With the injury, Marx will miss crucial UEFA Cup action. Hertha is currently 16th in the 18-team Bundesliga.
