EPA Bows to Refiner Pressure, Lifts Apr. 15 Deadline for Summer-Spec RFG

Bowing to pressure from the nation's refiners, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has backed down from its demand that terminal operators receive only summer-grade reformulated gasoline (RFG) from Apr 15. Details of the new rules are expected to be posted on the agency's website today.

Last October, the EPA recommended a series of legislative changes, including a proposal to ease the transition from winter- to summer-grade RFG.

The EPA had proposed that terminals receive only summer- grade RFG from Apr. 15, as it believed that a strict cutoff date would discourage distributors from delaying receipt of the more expensive summer-grade RFG, required by the Clean Air Act...
