US Government Cuts Ties With Enron, Accounting Firm Andersen

The US government on Friday suspended new business dealings with Enron and its former accounting firm Andersen, citing indications of misconduct by the energy company and the criminal indictment of the auditor.

The General Services Administration (GSA) said Enron was suspended from new government business for a year. Also, Andersen, which was charged Thursday with obstructing the government's inquiry into Enron, was suspended for the duration of the indictment.

Andersen was indicted in connection with the destruction of tons of documents and computer files sought in probes of the beleaguered energy trading giant.
