Alaskan North Slope Gets Better; Cook Inlet Set for Rise

Alaskan oil production has recovered sharply this month from depressed volumes of North Slope crude in August and September as wells have been restarted following completion of inspections after a mid-August accident.

Daily data for the first three weeks of October from the state Department of Revenue's Tax Division show a 106,000 barrel per day rise in North Slope crude output compared to the September average, with 73,000 b/d of that from the Prudhoe Bay area.

An Aug. 17 explosion and fire at BP's Prudhoe Bay A-22 well, due to a combination of high pressures and structural weakness in subsea pipes, resulted in the shutdown of 147 wells with similar pressure levels (OD Aug.27,p2).
