Murphy Oil Readies for Active Drilling Program Offshore Malaysia.

Murphy Oil is about to begin an active drilling program offshore Malaysia in an attempt to assess the potential of a massive deepwater area discovered last year.

El Dorado, Arkansas-based Murphy announced the Kikeh oil discovery last July. Located on Block K in about 4,400 feet of water, Kikeh was the first deepwater oil discovery made in Malaysia.

Murphy President and Chief Executive Claiborne Deming said Thursday that the company has contracted for two Transocean drillships to carry out additional drilling on Block K. He said that Murphy has committed to drill six wells from the drillships, and the company has options to drill up to another 10 wells.
