Imperial Oil Looks to Possibly Double Oil and Natural Gas Production.

CALGARY -- After carving out a reputation for solid -- if somewhat dull -- upstream performance, Exxon Mobil affiliate Imperial Oil is preparing for a period of sustained investment that could almost double its oil and natural gas production within the next decade.

Imperial's oil and gas output has been bumping along in the area of 330,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day for years, with levels split between conventional oil and gas in Western Canada and heavy bitumen production in Alberta's oil sands region. While conventional production is expected to slump in the coming years, new projects in three areas -- the oil sands, the frontier Mackenzie Delta, and East Coast -- will more than make up for the decline.
