Exxon Considers 3 LNG Terminal Sites On US Gulf Coast

Exxon Mobil, which now has no liquefied natural gas (LNG) import capacity in the US, is looking at three sites on the Gulf Coast as possible locations for one or more LNG receiving terminals.

The company needs to line up delivery points for up to 15 million tons/year (2 billion cubic feet per day) of LNG it will produce in Qatar in partnership with state Qatar Petroleum (QP) starting in 2007-08 (OD Jun.19,p1). With capacity at the nation's four existing terminals fully booked, the company must either build its own facilities or take an interest in a project already being developed by others.

For now, Exxon has elected to pursue its own ventures. It is reviewing sites near Corpus Christi, Texas, and Mobile, Alabama, as well as the previously identified...
