Senate to Hear Proposals on Natural Gas Supply Crunch.

A key Senate panel is beginning the spadework to resolve "the looming crisis in natural gas supply and demand" by calling for legislative proposals from industry and other stakeholders by Jan. 7.

The call from Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee Chairman Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) will likely jumpstart the debate on energy policy when the new Congress convenes early next month. Passage of energy legislation has been thwarted the last four years because of differences among congressional members, much to the frustration of major energy industry groups.
