INDIA TO MOP UP US$1.4 BLN FROM PRIVATISATION IN CURRENT FISCAL YEAR.

NEW DELHI, Feb 6 Asia Pulse - Riding high on the success of the IBP and Videsh Sanchar Nigam Ltd (VSNL) privatisation, the Indian government is likely to mop up at least Rs 70 billion (US$1.4 billion) from disinvestment of various public sector undertakings (PSUs) in the current fiscal year.
The government has already been successful in garnering about Rs 54.75 billion from the sale of 6 companies, including some properties of the Hotel Corporation of India (HCI) and the Indian Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), as well as the amount mopped up through a special dividend in the privatisation of telco giant VSNL.
