INDO-NEPAL TRADE TREATY TO ADDRESS SURGE IN IMPORT OF SSI ITEM.

NEW DELHI, Feb 22 Asia Pulse - The Indian government has sought to dispel fears caused by surge in imports of small scale industry (SSI) items from Nepal and said the issue is being addressed under the current review of the Indo-Nepal bilateral trade treaty.

"We are in the middle of renegotiating the trade treaty with Nepal and hope that the concern of SSI will get addressed in the process," Minister for Small Scale Industry Vasundhara Raje said during an on-line chat session with SSI associations and entrepreneurs here.

Raje said she had also "written to the Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and apprised both the Federal Commerce Minister and Finance Minister about our concerns".
