CHINA UNICOM'S NET PROFIT UP 37.8 PCT IN 2001.

HONG KONG, March 28 Asia Pulse - China Unicom Limited, the second biggest mobile phone company in China, reported on March 27 that its net profit jumped 37.8 per cent year-on-year to 4.46 billion yuan (about US$539 million) in 2001.
Earnings per share went up 24.1 per cent to 0.36 yuan from 0.29 yuan in 2000.
Subscribers of GSM cellular amounted to 27.033 million at December 31, 2001, 111.7 per cent higher than 2000.
The market share in terms of GSM cellular subscribers in China Unicom's service areas increased from 22.7 per cent in 2000 to 28.5 per cent in 2001, and the market share in terms of net subscriber additions climbed up to 37.2 per cent last year.
