AUSTRALIA'S QANTAS REPORTS STRONG PASSENGER GROWTH.

SYDNEY, April 24 Asia Pulse - Australia's flagcarrier Qantas Airways Ltd (ASX:QAN) reported strong growth in passenger numbers in February as it lifted capacity.
Qantas said today that passenger numbers jumped 33 per cent in February compared to the same month in 2001, while numbers rose 21.4 per cent for the year to February 2002.
Domestic passenger numbers shot up 53 per cent in February compared to the same month last year, after the problems faced by rival Ansett Australia.
The airline carried 1.2 million domestic passengers in February, compared to 800,000 in the same month last year. For the year to date, it carried 9.7 million domestic passengers, up from 7.42 million in the previous corresponding period.
