YAHOO JAPAN'S PRETAX PROFIT DOUBLES TO US$83.17 MLN.

TOKYO, April 30 Asia Pulse - Yahoo Japan Corp (TSE:4689) announced Friday its parent-only pretax profit for fiscal 2001 doubled from the previous year to a record 10.6 billion yen ($US83.17 million), mainly due to a sharp expansion of the ADSL broadband communications business.
Japan's largest Internet portal operator also posted a 110 per cent jump in sales to 30.3 billion yen, helped by a sharp increase in the number of subscribers to the Yahoo BB ADSL service to 490,000 only six months after it was launched in September. Sales of modems needed to access the service totaled 13.3 billion yen, accounting for 44 per cent of total sales.
